I got a mantis living in a houseplant on a shelf in my house. He (or she--you can't tell very well until the last molt) snuck in with the plants after an outdoor watering. I'm hoping that if I feed him a cricket often enough, he'll stay put and not wander around the house. I love watching mantises, and always pick up a few egg cases for the yard every spring at the garden store.

The last egg cases I bought were all duds, but fortunately I had a couple of wild egg cases from last year's mantis crop that hatched for this year (they only live for one season.)
