<WHITE HOUSE ADMITS ERROR
A senior White House official acknowledged Saturday night that the 1998 report did not say what Bush claimed. “What happened was, we formed our own conclusions based on the report,” the official told NBC News’ Norah O’Donnell.
Don’t believe the admission, though. After all, it’s coming from the Bush administration.
Now, if you really do need to read between lines, try this one:
A Sept. 3 Security Council report on the work of UNMOVIC — the U.N. Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission — found that personnel from the IAEA and UNMOVIC met in Vienna in July with Iraqi officials and Dr. Jaffar Jaffar, a high-level Iraqi contact on nuclear weapons issues.
Why does Iraq have a high-level Iraqi contact on nuclear weapons issues? If such weapons do not exist in Iraq, all Iraq needs is a WMD inspections contact. Why would it be broken down to individual weapons systems if such weapons systems do not exist?
“There continues to be ample evidence that Saddam Hussein has relentlessly tried to acquire and develop weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons,” the official said.
So much for Hussein’s agreement for disarmament.
Ciao, ciao,
Dan
