Involuntary exposure

Radio on the bus or in the elevator? TV in the cafe or at the sports bar?

You can't just turn it off. It isn't yours.

The idea is, the passive sources, because they are so expensive, can be controlled by major players. And the passive sources are the ones that people just can't escape sometimes.

I still haven't found anything limiting print -- a non-passive source because reading requires active participation by the recipient of the information -- but I may not have looked in the right place.

Incidentally, in my travels looking for the list of restrictions as spelled out in the bill, I came across this:
Federal Election Commission refuses to exempt interest groups from pre-election ad ban. Seems the big bad Republican members of the FEC were the ones who voted to refuse the exemption for the special interest groups. Their hope, apparently, is to scuttle the entire campaign finance reform initiative by sending it to the courts. And incidentally muzzle the unions. Kinda puts the whole issue in a new light, doesn't it?

Regards--
Mary Anne
