<...Does "the security of this country" mean protecting American lives from violence?
How many Americans die in car crashes every year? How many are crippled? We aren't attacking Honda, Nissan, GM, or Ford. So, that 50,000 or so is acceptable?
American lives aren't all that important, I guess. Not so important we object in principle of them dying violently.
Irrelevant, and a deliberate (I assume) misrepresentation of the concept.
The military is charged with protecting us from enemies, foreign and domestic. Not from car crashes. Again, the apparent inability to deal with the more abstract aspect of these things trips you up. Nobody is deliberately killing 50,000 drivers a year, any more than anyone is deliberately killing the hundreds of thousands of people who die of natural causes each year.
Is it protecting our "way of life"? Say, our ability to purchase things? People lose that "way of life" when their houses are repossessed, cars, too, can't send their kids to college, economic well-being.
Well, that's only under attack by those hell-bent on destroying the economy, and that's internal. They want cheap labor, etc.
Well, we won't go into which party is currently working hardest to keep throwing monkey wrenches into the economy, but this is irrelevant too from a military point of view, with the possible exception of foreign powers sabotaging our economy in some way. Domestically, IMO, the best thing that we could do for our national economy is go the the Congress, wrap all the members in sixteen layers of duct tape, and shove them under their desks so they can't screw it up, but that's neither here nor there I suppose.
Is it protecting our individual liberties? The Bill of Rights, that sort of thing?
That is only under attack by the current administration, not anyone else. Ashcroft acts as if he hates the Bill of Rights, biggest problem he has.
Still waiting for Darth Ashcroft to demonstrate this awful plan to destroy us all. Keep waiting, I'm sure he'll try it any minute now. And where on this scale do we put those who currently actively support foreign tyrants like Saddam with a proven and bloody record of destroying the rights and lives of their citizens?
Is it protecting our "democratic process"? The right to vote, have one's vote count, to have choices.
Again, that's only under attack by the current administration and relatives and friends. People who don't want all the votes counted, just the "right" ones.
Geez, Bowser, this "choice" crap doesn't even make sense in the New Jersey case, as I have proven more than once. I'll have some news on this later. As for votes "counting" in Florida, remember the military ballots?
Tell me how our country is not secure EXCEPT from internal forces.
No problem:
