Re: How about poll taxes?

The best commentary on this was the latter part of the Pournelle article on this that I posted here.

Everyone immediately jumps on the problems involved with raising the bar for voting in this country, or the potential for abuse if some minimal requirements or limits are put in place.

Somehow, nobody ever comments on the dangers of a system that allows pretty much any jackass who is breathing to vote on who will command our armies, our nuclear arsenal, and (in our current mixed-economy nation) a vast portion of our economic system. Even on local levels, given the proposition process, our lives and fortunes are in the hands of many people who are ignorant at best, and idiots at worst, every time the polls open.

As I have pointed out dozens of times, it is in the best interest of politicians who wish to gain and keep political power to have the electorate comprised of utter gasbrains whose vote can be swayed by a slogan, or by holding something shiny in front of them.

That doesn't mean it's the best thing for the country as a whole, or the rest of us.

So don't look for any changes for the better. Next I expect that house pets will get the vote
