Turning gun owners into criminals is the quickest way of getting these fixated "borderline" folks to obtain illicit arms - and want to use them.
Gambling, when controlled, is much better in public than under the table where crime fluorishes.
These "impressive" gun owners you mention can hunt, target practice, etc. and get it out of their systems.
Restricted, it is natural to assume some of these folks would commit more crimes.
My views of course are much more complex - as I know the real reasons behind the fixated gun owners bizarre attraction to weapons, swords, etc.
If someone has been killed in WWI, WWII, civil war etc. - it is no surprise to see these same returned folks want to reenact a battle, collect uniforms or weapons, etc. This is a way they balance what was biased extremely negative in the past (i.e. dying, suffering) in a positive light -now viewing these objects as "fun" collectibles. Once they balance the past imbalance - the attraction can be lost overnight and suddenly they sell their collections as they lose the appeal and are now viewed on equilibrium.
This makes it all infinitely clearer to the observer what is actually going on.
