Perfection is impossible.
I think most people will be pleased with effective, reasonable and honorable.
In fact, I think the injection of reasonableness into the discussion of how we live and what policies we should pursue would be a tremendous improvement on our civil life.
A friend of mine just lost a Congressional campaign he should have won an open seat (Tx#25) because he failed to make a positive case for why he should have been elected, and instead made only half-hearted attempts to put forth a positive agenda, while going to an extreme negative against his opponent.
I like the guy and have known him for 20 years and he made even me uncomfortable. He failed because he failed to energize.
The challenge is to now bring reasonable back to American civil society.
I hope we can leave the bushis-an-idiot, and the bush-is-a-waiting-dictator crap behind.
And I especially hope we can leave war-for-oil behind.
There are real issues to deal with.
We must all deal with them as Americans if we are to get the best results.
