While I understand your sentiment, I don't think a double standard should be applied
The democrats have historically run both elected branches quite often, and I can't recall the 'perfection' standard ever being applied.
clinton was certainly never held to 'erfection', nor was JFK or LBJ or FDR.
I think a standard of effective and reasonable is just fine.
BTW, the Federal Government is run by civil servants. Its election functions are led by the parties in power.
