Seeing beyond

In today's consolidated media empires a few individuals can wield a lot of clout over the content, just as a President can set an agenda for the nation.

It is a matter of public record that a good number of the largest media conglomertates have individuals who identify themselves as jewish and have a vested interest in the Palestine-Iraq/Israeli conflict.

There is nothing wrong with this and unlike those who talk of Jewish conspiracies - I realize that no one can choke the media of information.

I will pointedly ask you...do you think that Bush's strategy of focusing upon the Iraq regime change harmed him with many of these media bigwigs? Do you think they reduced coverage of Iraq or increased it? Or do you think they have no say in the tone and content of editorials, coverage, etc.

No, Bush did not exploit race or religion - but he did know which hotbuttons would cater to certain interests and would keep them from uniting against him in as harsh a manner as we saw against Dole..where media coverage was beyond brutal.

As for the "Jewish Media Interests" Yes, a lot of crazy folks are out there (white supremacists being number one on this list) who think the world is controlled by Jews. This is laughable. The jewish people have been the scapegoat for centuries and judging by current European and global sentiments - I do not see this as letting up anytime soon.
A few successful jewish people do not a conspiracy make - no more than there is a widespread caucasion conspiracy to suppress the black man. Those who have less have often pointed at those who have more and assumed a conspiracy must be behind the disparity.

This does not diminsh the fact that there are Jewish media interests, just like their are Christian media interests, US media interests, Palestinian media interests etc. To assume that all persons who achieve a certain position keep their politics out of all business decisions is decidedly noble - but perhaps a tad unrealistic.

Good afternoon Mary Anne!

PS
I've been Jewish...Protestant, Catholic, Taoist and Buddhist. I've spun the prayer wheels, lit the Menorah, and given sermons at the pulpit. Religion is a tool - a learning tool. After awhile you see how no religion is truly best to serve suffering humanity and that most religions always segregate and divide humanity. I loved each of my families - regardless of their faith. My jewish parents and siblings were just as dear to me as my Taoist ones and Christian ones. Love transcends religion. ;.-)
