Israel and Palestine are just one example. Military action has settled the hash of quite a few terrorists throughout history, although this has often been because the military forces were willing to go a hell of a lot farther than ours are. We're doing what we can within the limitations of a civilized nation.
At any rate, as the article points out, the IDF has spent billions of dollars in the effort, but still has been unable to stop the suicide bombers.
Indeed, Israeli military incursions into the occupied territories only encourage further suicide bombings.
Given that the goal of the current Palestinian leadership is the total and absolute extinction of Israel, which they have put down in writing, if you have a better idea on how to deal with it, some kind of compromise with someone who wants you utterly dead, I'd love to hear it, and I'm sure many others would too.
The fact is that while military action has not stopped terrorism cold in the Middle East, it has sure as hell slowed it down, considering the number of terrorists captured or killed, the weapons confiscated (remember the ship full of weapons?), and the bomb shops destroyed. You would have to admit that if Israel had done nothing at all, all of those resources would have eventually been used against Israel.
The original Palestinian bombings--the current "Intifada"--were instigated not because of Israeli military action, but ostensibly because an Israeli they didn't like went to some holy site. The tanks rolled AFTER the suicide bombings, a small fact that should be kept in mind.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian freedom fighters continue their campaign, having recently slaughtered three Zionist oppressors at point-blank range while one was reading the other two a bedtime story.

- If military power could stop terrorism, it would have stopped terrorism.
- As a matter of interest...
- So let us all lay down our weapons and sing cumbiaya!
- I disagree with the two premises completely
- Neither does appeasement nor diplomacy
- Terrorism fails
