Setting food and drug safety and effectiveness standards, need not have anything to do with free market economics. If Americans are offered healthier foods from which to choose, Americans will eat healthier foods. If McDonalds, In-And-Out, Wendy's, Coco's, Chilli's, etc. all cut one percent of fat from their foods, it would be a good start, and it would not hurt anyone financially (except the lard providers).
Your kids would live longer.
