"It's not just for adults anymore. Early onset of Type 2 diabetes (formerly known as "adult-onset diabetes") is perhaps the most startling morbidity among children to result from the obesity epidemic. Children's Hospital & Research Center at Oakland, in Oakland, CA, confirms the trend. "Type 2 diabetes accounts for 25-30% of our new diabetes cases; five years ago we saw one to two new cases per year, in 200 patients." "French Fry Inflation" – fast food portions just keep getting bigger and bigger over time, as do Americans. From 1950 to 1970, the average serving of fries at fast food restaurants was 2 ounces; in the 1980s it was 4 ounces; in 2002 it's 6 ounces. Marketing – food makers target children with an avalanche of advertising for fast food, candy, soft drinks and sugared cereals. The average child sees 10,000 food ads per year."
