Lott is Senate Majority Leader. In the view of the Democrats, he has to die. The full Gingrich treatment. This is only the first salvo. Lott, if he doesn't resign (a good idea for other reasons) will be batting crap like this away constantly, unable to do any useful work in the Senate*.

The Democrats see politics as war, and you ain't seen nothing yet. I don't know how crazy they would have gotten if they hadn't won Louisiana.

*As if he does now. "Power sharing." Good God.
