<Here’s the part of the story you didn’t hear. The part you will not read about on CNN or even Fox or Newsmax.
That's because the only story in your post is the one in your head. This is your spin and your spin entirely.
You also assume that black Americans older than me (I was not around in 1948) were unaware of the speeches Mr. Thurmond was making in his campaign, or don't remember them today. They weren't and they do. They can get irate all by themselves, just like the grown-up citizens they are. Your presumption that black voters over the age of, say, 60 are too feebleminded to remember what they heard and how they lived in 1948 without prompting from Evil Leftists is just bizarre.
That's not what I said at all Mary Anne...and you know it! I said that the media use quotes like these:
"I want to tell you, ladies and gentleman, that there's not enough troops in the army to force the southern people to break down segregation and admit the Nigra race into our theaters, into our swimming pools, into our homes, and into our churches."
These type of quotes are used by the left to rehumiliate, isolate and demean blacks - and do so very safely from behind Strom Thurmond's 1948 political viewpoints.
Think I'm off-base - just look whose jumping on the bandwagon - the group of worker users who want to enslave the entire working class:
Coincidence? Not a chance!
Mary Anne...you're rational.
If a bullied child was in your story time sessions and called a "bedwetter" and "Diaper wearer" by another kid - when that child returns in two years to the library having forgotten the incidents over time, would you say, "Oh I just met and reprimanded that bully who used to call you a whining bedwetter and diaper wearer. He won't do that again."
Of course you wouldn't - it would demean and humiliate that child.
Well that "child" is the way ALL African Americans are being treated.
Sure you can pretend that its done out of genuine concern - but any insensitive lout should be able to see that it really is a form of demeaning - to make that person dependant upon you and grateful for it.
Some politicians didn't miss a beat and play right into the trick - using it to empower themselves on the backs of fearful blacks who don't want to be called names again.
I find that far more insidious and damaging to African Americans than Trent's poorly chosen words at a tribute.
Glad to see we can still communicate...
...and deep down inside you know I really do care. about these things.

Trent Lott put his foot in his mouth. Some Democrats were kind enough to point it out. The opposition party -- imagine that!
Even What's-his-name, Mr. No Spin Zone, was very careful to distance himself from Mr. Lott's remarks in an interview segment on his Fox show tonight. And here's a quote from a well-known left-wing racist in the Washington Post:
William Kristol, editor of the conservative Weekly Standard, said "Oh, God," when he learned of Lott's comments. "It's ludicrous. He should remember it's the party of Lincoln," referring to Lott's role as Republican leader of the Senate, which the GOP will control when the new Congress convenes next month.
The 1948 Dixiecrat campaign was about segregation. Truman was against it. Thurmond's party had support of segregation explicitly mentioned as part of its platform.
Who is paying you to write this stuff? The spin you're trying to put on this is that Democrats knew what Trent Lott was going to say (telepathy? fortune telling?) and decided to use this knowledge to get black voter support of the Democrats by pointing out that Thurmond was a Democrat in 1948, when segregation was the flashpoint issue among Southern Democrats. Hmmm...
There are enough people alive and enough documents out there that this particular piece of history can't be rewritten to make it harmless. You're blowing smoke to cover up the obvious:
Lott would have been fine if he'd just known when to shut up. An election in 1948 would have been irrelevant at a 100th birthday party, but nooooooo...
Regards--
Mary Anne
