Reading the citation, it seemed to me that one gallery owner asked the art in question be displayed, and then same owner asked it be taken down. Because she didn't feel safe.
p - "No controversy. No ACLU lawsuits. No NPR commentators condescention towards religious Muslims denigrating them for being offended. Welcome to the world wrought by out of control reflexive liberalism."
Apparently she owns the gallery. If so, the woman probably has a right to display what she wants for the reasons she wants, and to NOT display for the same reasons. That's the American Way.
It seems there were no Muslims complaining, the way there would have been had it been the Christian or Jewish faiths which had been the object of the artists attention. They would scream their lungs out, and your post would have centered on how the left-wing is using art to poison minds. Again.
What her fears are God only knows. Those are hers, to deal with as she must.
This is a sterling example of the conservative tactic of taking one person's actions or statements and trying to extrapolate that across an entire political movement.
Conservatives read something like that and whip themselves into a frenzy, moaning, crying, beating their heads against the wall about the liberal plot against humanity.
Over and over and over. Moaning and groaning, complaining about a liberal cabal. Because one woman gave into some nameless fears and exercised the right of ownership.
It's silly. There are options. One is to grow up, and let the lady run her gallery. Respect the American Way, that's maybe the best. Stop trying to control everything with your McCarthy-like hysteria, even what a fearful woman in a Seattle art gallery does.
However, if it's that important, any of the conservatives on this board could open a gallery and display the art.
You could call Ashcroft and tell him to make the woman display the thing, or declare her an enemy combatant. She's about as much of a threat as the brain-damaged guy they held at Guantanamo for a year. And it's time they integrated Guantanamo. Ashcroft will show her to hate her country.
Or you could leave the woman alone with her fears and not see a plot behind every parking meter and telephone pole.
Arf (wouldn't THAT be a switch!!)
