Glenn Reynolds writes about possible deception and propaganda already underway prior to our actual military attack on Iraq.
Recently, I've read books that specificly focus on this kind of stuff as US military strategy and I've come across conferences and web pages dedicated to this 21st century application of Sun Tsu's knowlege. Dick Cheney is an enthusiastic disciple of these methods. It seems very clear to me that we, despite the media, the web and whatever have (deliberately) no clear picture of what's really happening. Observing, orienting deciding and acting rapidly, time and again in unexpected and rapidly changing manners, cloaked overall with broad deception is keeping this administration's moves way ahead of it's rivals and enemies.
