<Iraq was going for a nuclear program back in 81 when the Israelis stopped them with an airstrike.
Name the revered president who publicly condemned the strike.
Of course, Reagan did condemn the attack, at least publically. We'll likely never know if that was with a wink and a nudge behind the scenes.
As you point out, Iraq had also used chemical weapons on Iran and the Kurds - at the same time we were very pally with them (hint: under the above revered president, and the next one, until our 'friend' went too far).
I'll ask again - If the argument is so compelling now, where was your moral outrage before?
To the extent that we knew about it, most of us were angry about what was going on. The Iran-Iraq war didn't get a lot of press coverage here in the US, and the actions against the Kurds got even less. The biggest events that we heard about at the time were when the Iraqis fired some French Exocet missiles into the USS Stark and when an American ship stupidly shot down an Iranian airliner.
(Probably same place your outrage of the condition of women under Taliban rule was before 9/11...)
That was a cheap shot and just goes to prove your ignorance and mean-spiritedness. Those of us who were aware of the Taliban's actions against women were very angry about it.
