<Bush has taken a potentially worthy goal and, through incompetence and arrogance, has transformed it into what will be the most disastrous military and geolopolitical adventure in US history. The damage done by the Vietnam War will pale in comparison. He's squandering our capital--moral, political, and economic--at an astounding rate.
I see it as quite the opposite - he has given a new bite where before there was just bark, there will be a basis for middle east economic prosperity where there has just been palace and weapons building, the political world order is realigning towards a US superpower taking the global lead. Dictatorships in the region are reforming as we speak. Reforms in Qatar have been implemented, in Saudi Arabia they are planning a package of new freedoms and the general effect on the political environs is one of general reform.
The anti-war hysteria has definitely impacted upon the global economy - as its socialist sponsors knew it would.
If "arrogance" is defined as following through with one's convictions and ignoring France, Germany and the fat-cats self-interest in those nations and petty fears of dictator member nations in the UN or by ignoring socialist backed protests - I, naturally, am all for such "arrogance."
I predict - my views will not change a whit in the next six months, and that yours, Davin's and Mary Anne's will undergo what amounts to a full scale "deprogramming."
Naturally, all those who predicted the gulf war and Afghanistan would be endless bodybag quagmires quickly scurried back into the shadows, instead of proclaiming their ignorance and conceding either Bush's tactical wisdom.
When tons of VX are unearthed I'll post a copy of the letter Blix was handed two days ago saying it had all been destroyed.
