I appreciate not being lumped with the Bowsers of the world just because I criticize micro managing politicians who have given us poor military planning.
In the 1991 Gulf War the first President Bush handled most things better. Diplomatically he rallied the world behind us. Militarily he made certain we had way more than enough force to execute our battle plan. There was a point when we had a quarter million troops in place and he listened to our military and decided to double that, thus achieving overwhelming superiority. And he let the soldiers run the war and didn't meddle with their war plans.
His big mistake was the end game. Not ensuring Saddam was taken out one way or another is the reason we are where we are today. Also, the betrayal of the shia uprising we encouraged was one of the ugliest chapters in our military history.
