No question the military's there to prop up the Saudi regime from external threats. Internally, I think our troops are such a political minus that they outweigh any value as reserve units to put down an internal uprising. The Saudis themselves were talking about asking the troops to leave, before the war. But maybe it was just talk, and I'm sure Frank's right that things are not as they seem in the Middle East.
