Second Aspect Of Backlash

A big part of the backlash that hollywood doesn't get at all is it's not just about their stance, but the public perception of an abuse of celebrity status. They have a podium that the average citizen doesn't and their arrogant rejection of majority opinion comes across as celebrity ego. Most americans feel they are just as qualified as hollywood celebrities to judge public policy and resent the tone of the celebrities acting as if they have moral authority to judge what is right or wrong.

I'm probably not explaining it well, but their is something about the tone and style of hollywood criticism that strikes me as far more arrogant than most political opposition and almost anyone here. I think most of us can see that most who debate here are concerned about doing the right thing as are most politicians (at least the appearence anyway) yet the Hollywood crowd seems to want to put Bush on a par with Hussein. Their obvious lack of morality in many other areas makes their assumption of moral superiority come across as very irritating and conceited. Making use of their celebrity to brow beat everyone who disagrees with them comes across as inappropriate given their perceived moral status and total lack of expertise even on a par with many more ordinary citizens. Many ordinary citizens are certainly more educated than these celebrities and probably follow international affairs more closely.

It comes down to an attitude of we know just as much as you bigmouth and don't think you have any more right to have your opinion broadcast than we do. We find your arrogance irritating and don't feel like hearing anymore out of you.

Regards,
Mark
