That wouldn't be my first choice; a civilian/commercial space-faring civilization or a Star Trek utopia would be healthier, to my mind.
You might note that the universe of Star Trek seems primarily composed of various military fleets, not least of which is Star Fleet. Complete with uniforms, regulations, and the works. Maybe kinder and gentler in the Picard era, but still military.
Commercial endeavors seem to be few and far between, and given the presentation of aliens like the Ferengi, one gets the impression that the Star Trek writers are neither very familiar with or comfortable with the idea of capitalism and markets.
That's too bad. It would be cool to see some shows based on interstellar traders. Poul Anderson's Polesotechnic League stories come to mind (the original Michael Whelan painting--below--used for the cover of "The Man Who Counts" hangs on Gary Hudson's wall).
The "Enterprise" series has touched on trade ships a bit, which is refreshing.
Heck, I may have just talked myself into re-reading "Citizen of the Galaxy."
