INS: Illegal immigrants in US 7,000,000

Seven years ago in 1996 this was produced (PDF)

This sounds bad enough, but it is wholly inaccurate and as close to a cleaning up of statistics as the INS can manage.

In 1996 they apprehended over 1.6 million illegal aliens in the US. Considering they never come close to catching them all and they don't fill out census forms, it's safe to say well over 2.5 million are attempting to cross into the US each year. (Several Border Patrol agents in AZ figure they capture one out of every ten that come in illegally. If that were true even my estimates are conservative)

That means if we divide it among the favored routes (CA,TX, AZ) That means you have 833,000 people each year passing through each state. That's not accurate however because the AZ route is much more dangerous and unpopular due to the heat and high death rate during half the year. So California and Texas take on the lion's share. Let's say about 1,200,000 through CA, 900,000 through Texas and 400,000 through AZ. That's a lowball estimate but it's as good as any since 100% accurate statistics on illegal immigration are impossible to acquire.

Let's now take California apprehensions away from that number and we see that 82,000 were apprehended in the first 10 months of 2002 in the San Diego sector. (Let's say 100,000 are apprehended in San Diego and for arguments sake say another 100000 are apprehended elsewhere in the state) That means there are likely 1,000,000 passing through CA that are NOT apprehended.

Whether they stay in CA or move to other states is not the point. 1,000,000 get through.

400,000 is wishful thinking on the part of do-nothing politicians and pro-illegal immigration groups. The evidence of these numbers is obvious all around one in CA. It's not like it's exactly hidden under the rug.

PS I have nothing againstr Mexicans or Mexico...in fact I would love to see Mexico become our 51st state and see them all employed at minimum wage and above. No need to flee to other States then, no need to sneak or be mistreated by parasitic smugglers. No need to be second class citizens. Amnesty isn't the answer. Statehood for Mexico is. As long as Mexico is run by corrupt Mexicans - mexicans will suffer. Aztlan or any fantasy would just MAGNIFY their worst nightmare - an even bigger Mexico to flee from!
