Flakey politics in California has a long tradition

Remember that Hollywood is in California. Voting actors into high office because it's entertaining has been a long California tradition. George Murphy was a US Senator for California. Sonny Bono was mayor of Palm Springs and later a US Congressman. Clint Eastwood was mayor of Carmel. And of course there's the gipper.... Senator Barbara Boxer was never an actress so she has no excuse for being utterly incompetent. As a second generation native born Californian (one of the few), I find this all quite embarrassing. With the state initative process out-of-control along with this recall, Californian politics will soon become a total shambles. I guess it'll take a complete rewrite of the state constitution to sort things out (not likely to happen soon).

Gray Davis has blown it as Governor. However, I'm going to vote against recall because I think it weakens democracy in California. I should emphasize that by doing so, I am throwing away my vote. Gray Davis is now certain to be recalled and Arnie will be our next Governor (it's a done-deal, in-the-bag). My guess is that Arnie will make a mess of it (he has no political experience) and not be reelected after serving only one term. That's the best case scenario. The worst case scenario is that Arnie will be recalled and things will sprial out-of-control. We definitely should NOT be doing this stupidity while the state's economy is in the toilet.
