The whole idea was utter nonsense from the beginning. If the ships truly existed, they would have been easily detected and captured. We could have saved billions of dollars and thousands of lives. We would not have let hundreds of tons of chemical and biological weapons make port somewhere to be distributed to other unfriendlies. And if the Iraqis did sink 'em, we'd know it - we'd know exactly where Saddam's ephemeral WMDs were. No one with a working brain would have taken this story seriously.
