reasons

The way I see it your reasons boil down to this:

Bloodlust-"somebodies ass had to be kicked"

This might have been true but I believe it was mostly satisfied by the Afghan invasion.

Iraq as an object lesson

Better, but the way you characterize it is negatively hyperbolic by the use of "dangerous and thinskinned", "willing to shed lots of foreign blood", "pissed off" and "bully". If object lesson is part of the equation, the adjectives are different.

geopolitical agenda of the neocons

I think hegemony is a valid theory based on simple fact but "Empire" is a stretch and an unwanted possible consequence.

domestic political reasons

This one goes nowhere IMO

My own opinion is that 911 was indeed indirectly the reason for GWII, for the following reasons:

The 911 attack was a wake up call that the enemies of western civilization will stop at nothing to destroy us. To say it is "us against them" is oversimplification but the enemy is readily identifiable.

The problem was correctly (imo) identified as Pan Arabic and Islamic. Iraq was a target because it is part of that reality and it was governed by a despot that could be removed without appearing to attack the Islamic religion.

By changing the regime in Iraq, we established a focal point outside the USA in a country with huge potential to become a Middle East showplace of freedom and prosperity. This potential does not exist in Afghanistan. Anytime a task like this is undertaken there will be opportunists and carpetbaggers but the goal is on a higher plane.

To believe that all the raesons are shabby one must believe that there is no long term threat from Arabic/Islamic radicals or have a better way to deal with it beyond trying to understand them.

Will we be successful? I can't say but I believe the odds favor us if we spare no resources to get the job done. This is the way I will judge our leaders. I am willing to suffer more for a safer world than I am for cradle to grave entitlements.

Finally:

Who can deny that the world will be a better place with a secular, free and prosperous Iraq?

Who can deny that in two years there have been no major terrorist events on USA soil?

Who can deny that every event of 911 or greater scale pushes us closer to even more horrendous retaliation?

Who can deny that our enemies would kill millions if they could and how loud will be the voice for moderation after it happens?

This is not just a war for our security. It is a war for our souls and until someone shows me a better way, I believe it is being waged in the most moderate way possible.
