Hey, Katie!
Did you at least get to keep the crayons? They weren't those waxy, semitransparent Rosemark things were they?
I suspect that, because your teacher hasn't the time or the authorization to administer a multiphasic personality test, this was one way of finding out who you all are. That kind of information is helpful for teachers.
One possible approach to the assignment: Color inside of boxes vigorously, and thickly, with any color or combination of colors the student wants. Layer thickly on top with black crayon. Use a pencil or other pointy thing which will not get the student suspended because of her school's "zero tolerance" policy to etch her name, zoological denizen, star, activity and adjective into her boxes. For "adjective", underlying color can add emotional dimension. The vigorous-coloring part will help the student work off her frustration. The student will get points for creative use of resources, which might put the student on the short list for an independent project.
Did the Jewish kids in class get to write a Hebrew word in the "celestial being" box, since they don't do pictures of God? Any pictures of Thor? Of Val Hallen?
Good to meet you!
Regards--
Mary Anne

Colored pencils would have been better
