...to leave me expecting a point by point rebuttal of my claims and only to get that one barb.

A "Mary Anne post" like that can be likened to spotting a beautifully wrapped 4'x4' box next to the tree at Christmas...and opening it only to find two jelly beans (the black ones) sitting at the bottom.
