A couple benefits of UN support that we don't have
1. A legitimate platform upon which to ask for economic assistance in rebuilding Iraq. Right now we have a mess we made with a couple of friends, against considerable opposition, and a group of nations whose opinions we bulldozed saying, "That's nice. Pay for it yourself."
2. Other sources of troops to supervise security in Iraq that doesn't involve calling up the American reserves. This is the front-page headline in my little Republican newspaper this morning: "MORE TROOP CALL-UPS EYED. Reserves May Be Needed for Iraq Duty". The headline immediately below it was "U.S. Finds No Proof Of Weapons In Iraq. Team Spent 4 Months On Search For WMD".
