I wonder how all those people really feel about the canvas and duct tape space suit simulations in the very cozy environment of Utah? Do they also, like you, feel this is crucial Mars Research? I doubt it highly. They support the Mars Society because they support a human mission to Mars. However, until the issue of life on Mars is settled, it will never happen. I'm sure those scientists on the Steering committe realize this.

for the sake of conversation and to show how little you read before you criticize, Chris inferred that most everyone on MECA was a Mars Soceity member. Not true. I was member for a while too, but witnessed they way people who oppose your views of non-planetary protection are treated. I did receive a Certificate of Entitlement from Zubrin saying I was granted 2 acres of land on Mars. Funny thing though, the certificate never said where on Mars my "land" was.
