Keep in mind that I am sharing what it is the medical experts say about Ms. Schiavo's condition. I have no reason to doubt their conclusions.
But lets be clear. Ms. Schiavo is not comatose. That's not condition she is in. She's in what's termed a "persistive vegetative state." Her brain no longer has a cerebral cortex. It is only capable of operating her involuntary, automatic body functions in much the same way a computer program can operate a machine assembly line.
In this state, her brain and body can react to external stimuli, but the person that was Terri schiavo is no longer experiencing this. She has no memories, no thought, no emotions. Because of the extensive physical damage to her brain, she will never recover these functions.
Terri Schiavo, the person, died thirteen years ago. All that's left is a body without a mind.
