I got interested in the case several weeks ago as I watched the right wing media start to push it to the top of their agenda. But let me respond to your points:
FRANK: "If her condition is what you say it is, why the urgency?"
MY REPLY: There is nothing "urgent" about thirteen years. Mr. Schiavo has been diligently pursuing terminating artificial life support for Terri for the past five years. My problem is that the Florida legislature and Governor chose to intervene. They had no business doing so. They've made this terrible personal tragedy into a political fiasco.
FRANK: "Is it also untrue that the parent's experts have been refused the right to examine her?"
MY REPLY: This isn't true. Court appointed doctors were mutually agreed to by both the parents and the husband. The parents simply won't accept what they've been told.
FRANK: "Has she really been examined by dozens of neurologists?"
MY REPLY: Yes. In several different states. They all came to exactly the same conclusion.
FRANK: "I can only assume that you are basing your position on the judicial deliberations. I don't share your confidence in a judge wielding power over life and death in a case like this."
MY REPLY: We're not talking about just one judge. We're talking about 19 judges, all of whom came to exactly the same conclusion.
FRANK: "Due process is still under way and I trust that the right decision will be made eventually."
MY REPLY: I believe that the action of the Florida Legislature willbe found to be unconstitutional. I believe that most members of that "august" body already know that this is the case and their votes were based more on politics than reason.
FRANK: "Every effort should be made to bring all parties into agreement."
MY REPLY: The most important party in all of this is Terri Schiavo. She left us all thirteen years ago. Its time to let her body follow her mind and spirit. Its time she be allowed to rest in the grace of God.
