Future medical expense

If her condition is what you say it is, why the urgency? I doubt that the husband can be held personally responsible for future medical expense.

If he's still her legal guardian and her expenses continue, you bet he can. The hospice's lawyers can attach everything he owns. Business is business. Ask anyone whose parents have gone into a nursing home. You have to be very careful about comingled assets. This woman was his wife. My bet is, most if not all of their assets are comingled.

I find it incredible that people seem not to allow for the obvious, that he may be reluctant to renounce his guardianship because he loves her, or his memory of of who she was, and doesn't want her body to become a live doll in her parents' fantasy world. (It would also be interesting to know the history of his relationship with them before his wife's illness. Some people don't understand each other because they don't want to.)

Judges make decisions about life and death every day. They have experience in this. We don't see most of them splashed across the papers.

How comfortable are you with a legislative body making medical decisions? Think about your own state government. I know I'm thinking of mine when I say, "Not very."
