re: Roundtable Discussion - Input wanted

The problem isn't that we need one more law or a thousand more laws. The problem is we already have too many laws.

Next, how many people work for the govt? Compare how many people work to make products or provide services for private opposed to the public sector. For example, Boeing builds airplanes for commerical airline business, but also builds things for the miltary. So some percentage of Boeing makes products for govt. Whereas Lockheed probably makes most of it's products for govt.
So, how many people actually working for the govt is a complicated question. One could simply get the number of all govt employees- Federal, state and local. And compare this number to those employed by private sector.

Finally, the fundemental problem is free competition vs monopolies. Everyone may have some clue as to why monopolies are bad, but most don't know why they are bad or even what a monopoly is.

Summary, the problem is people are too stupid to understand the shell game. And the problem isn't the game, the problem is that stupid people insist on playing this game. You aren't going to win this game. Stop trying to play it. Stop trying to get govt to interfere with the private sector- especially at the federal level.
