It's okay to lie if someone else lies?
Nobody in any of these statements is lying.
No, I am saying that given the same information the administration had, the Democratic leaders came to the same conclusions about WMD and Saddam. I'm not even counting the same conclusions reached by the previous admininistration. Been listening to Madeline Albright the past couple of days? Or the conclusions reached by the intelligence agencies of other nations.
Even Iraqi military leaders thought they had WMD, and by some accounts, even Saddam may have been convinced he had WMD.
Waxman is stretching the definition of a "lie" past all imagining. Did you read the intelligence reports, at least the declassified ones? If two agents say that Saddam is cooking up tons of anthrax, and two other agents say they have doubts, what decisions do you make on this basis? If someone is pointing a gun at you and one bystander who says he's a weapons expert says it's loaded, and another weapons expert says it isn't, how do you act on that information? What if three expert onlookers say it isn't loaded, and only one says it is? You're looking down the barrel. Think hard.
