and neither side used them, for the same reason Saddam did not WMD during the Gulf war in 1990. He knew it would mean a similar retaliation.
This time around, some are saying he didn’t use them because he wanted international sympathy for him and against America. While this may be somewhat true, I have two theories- on connected to this and one not.
1. He was going to use WMD as a last resort, but he never thought it would go that far. I think he really thought the UN would keep the US in check. When the US military rolled on through, things were chaotic, and his troops did little to fight back. Most seemed eager to surrender.
2. He knew eventually the US would send its military in, so while he played hide and seek with the UN inspectors, he hid the WMDdeep in the desert, and/or with his neighbors. America would look foolish when they couldn’t find anything. The world would pressure the US to give him his country back. He gets his WMD back and is back in business. And now the US couldn’t come near him without the world jumping them down.
Didn’t his troops have chemical suits and mask ready at hand- I know our troops did.
Here is what we do know;
*Saddam had WMD in the form of Chemical Weapons.
*Saddam used these weapons to intimidate Iran, kill Iranians and kill his own people, the Kurds.
*Saddam could not account for Chemical WMD, just like the one recently found. Such a weapon is in violation of the UN resolution.
*This WMD was found, and it contains a gallon of Sarin, a drop of which will kill a person.
