The military, particularly in recent months, has had a tendency not to release findings until they have every last damn duck lined up in a row. This is admirable, but by the time their story comes out in any detail, the parade, led by a media which doesn't mind a little amibiguity in its evidence, has passed them by.
And of course, if there is some reason that releasing the information would compromise a military or intelligence situation, the whole subject might just drop out of sight. I suppose the military feels that their job is to win the war, not put out PR fires. Unfortunately, in a "hearts and minds" situation, the two are not mutually exclusive.
For example, I have heard nothing since the first story of that stash of 44 shells found a few days ago (probably conventional, but no test results have come back.)
