Let's not forget the Joe Wilson-Valerie Palme affair.
For those who may have forgotten the details, Joseph Wilson travelled to Niger at the behest of the CIA based on a request from VP Cheney's office in order to investigate claims that Iraq was trying to acquire Yellowcake from the African country.
When Wilson found there was nothing to the allegations, and subsequently became an outspoken critic of the Bush administration's lies about the story, word was leaked to a journalist that Wilson's wife was a CIA agent.
That was a dirty deed, vindictive and cowardly, and - need I add? - illegal.
Like Atta in Prague, the Niger Yellowcake story refuses to die, and was recently resurrected once again by the Financial Times of London.
However, as I pointed out in my rebuttal:
...there is no hard evidence to support the allegation that Iraq sought yellowcake from Niger. The claim seems particularly ludicrous when one considers that Iraq had its own domestic source of yellowcake, but no way of converting it into anything dangerous.
How 'bout that? Iraq didn't need to seek yellowcake anywhere. It had its own domestic source.
Iraq could retrieve yellowcake from its own phosphate deposits at Al Qaim near the Syrian border. But yellowcake, without the ability to convert it fissile material, was not a threat.
