Donald, I so understand those mixed emotions about our latest wars. Afghanistan was a no-brainer and to have not supported that would have truly been a failure of national resolve. But somehow, the neo-cons have deduced that if a citizen objects to one war, they're against them all, that it is surely a black and white issue. I, like you felt that Al Gore lost the last election, that even with the discrepancies in Florida, that it was Gore's election to win and he simply blew it.
For our more conservative colleagues, I think I can speak for most of the others on here that hold centrist or left-leaning views. Our distaste of Bush is something we've come up with on our own, completely separate from our support of others, opinions created by observing and reading and not pushed onto us by Michael Moore or Molly Ivins. It is amazing to me that on a board that should be made up of scientists and free thinkers, that anyone could come up with a link between a disdain for George Bush and a lack of patriotism. Our country is not stronger at this time. We haven't come together in the way we did after Pearl Harbor under the unifying power of FDR. We are at the widest political divide I've seen in my lifetime and the buck stops at our leader. To believe now that it's time for change does not insinuate that those beliefs wish a return to Monicagate. We're all in this together.
