re: Diebold

You have some misunderstanding of how modern software development works. Projects with teams of programmers are highly compartmentalized--explicitly so, using a methodology called "object-oriented programming", based on the premise that a programmer can work on one module of the code in isolation, doing whatever he/she wants to the guts, as long as it adheres to a formal interface specification to ensure that that module works with the rest of the system. Each module is a "black box", in other words. The unfortunate downside is that it's easier for a rogue programmer to build in backdoors and trojans in software that, by definition, nobody else ever needs to see. If the outputs from the module look good, there's little inclination to question what's going on inside.

So the whole team at Diebold wouldn't need to be in on it. It would only take one partisan or mercenary programmer to insert a vulnerability into the system.

It's obvious that Florida taught the Democrats something. If you can't win on votes, attack the process. No doubt this will be tactic number one again this fall. This is so transparent it's ridiculous.

Ahem...have you already suppressed the knowledge that Gore won on the popular vote? What was at stake was how that little quirk in our election system called the electoral college would distort that result to produce a different outcome.
