Bush had nothing to do with Vietnam and neither did I. It was a long time ago. We don't hold the current Germany responsible for Hitler or Japan responsible its WW2 actions. Saddam was responsible for the issues for which we invaded Iraq.
We faught in Vietnam to avoid a communist takeover. There has been plenty of evidence that communism was a bad thing for those that endured it. There is also plenty of evidence we supported countries during the cold war that were worse than some communist countries. I'm not sure whether SV was more like SK or Nicaragua. It's a failure I feel keenly sorry about. It's a dark blot on our history. I feel is responsible for much of the mistrust of the US in the world.
We have to do better, just as we need to prevent Abu grahib type incidents. The Bush administration was responsible for that mess at least to the level of a failure of management. That scandal is one of the main reasons I gave Kerry a second look. Unfortunately, he decided to use Carter as a foreign policy model.

Mark
