Might be worth waiting for it before flying off in all directions.
What WAS he paying hundreds of weapons scientists for? Maybe they just have a very generous retirement program.
Heck, considering how Iran is rubbing the U.N.'s nose in their own nuclear program, maybe Saddam wouldn't even have bothered concealing it any more.
Anyone who thinks the Iraq situation would have remained stable over the next twenty years under the pre-war conditions (sanctions, inspections, etc.) is living in a fantasy land. Saddam would have resumed his programs at his first opportunity. The inspection process was ineffective, and according to earlier reports, the inspection process had already been infiltrated by Iraqi intelligence.
Sanctions were succeeding only in killing civilians.
Anybody remember when everyone was talking about 5,000 children dying in Iraq each month due to sanctions?
A figure closer to the truth would be about 100,000 children over 7 years of sanctions, or about 1,200 a month. Oddly, this lethal toll of "business as usual" is never accounted for when you are discussing the effects of our invasion. Similar to your completely ignoring the murders that were routine for Saddam and his sons.
