WW2 was faught on 2 fronts. Exactly how did you forget that with your great reading on WW2? It's also hard to count someone as part of our allies who had a different ideology and were only on our side because we had a mutual enemy. I knew the Russians were a major force in WW2, but they were coming from a different direction. The US was the major portion of the troups in the battles we faught and won. We defeated Japan, not Russia. Russia helped defeat Germany with a contibution of the same magnitude as the US's. Overall we provided the bulk of the winning firepower. I don't consider supplying cannon fodder the same thing as supplying soldiers either.
If you really know your history you should know the German attack on Russia failed due to long supply lines not Russian military superiority. Russians were able to retake territory when the US opened up another front drawing German strength away from Russia. But I might be wrong. I'm drawing on memory of history classes over two decades ago and periodic historical reminisces from NPR and various news sites. I don't enjoy reading about war, but I do enjoy history as a whole.

Mark
