It's SOOOOOOO obvious you don't live in Europe, Robert.
If your highest goal in life is to have a rent-controlled apartment, a diminishing set of socialist entitlements and to be treated like a worthless rag after you reach 80, then the EU is for you.
If you like fearing knife attacks as you go down the street, admire graffiti and like to pay premiums for things Americans take for granted, the EU is for you.
If you like to live in a continent where everyone smokes like chimneys and there is no place to get away from the smoke and where porno shops grace public airports and heroin addicts and immigrants loiter around shopping areas, the EU is for you.
If you like public transportation, don't like driving and trust cabbies, the EU is for you.
If you can live with never smiling in public again, the EU is for you.
If you think Turkey is a great vacation spot, the EU is for you.
If you love receiving substandard healthcare (but it's free!-for now!) and sharing your room with four other patients in a hospital without any air-conditioning, the EU is for you.
If you don't like the separation of church and state, the EU is for you.
If you like paying double for electronics over what is paid in America, the EU is for you.
If you like the spectre of continued diminishing entitlements and nothing to replace them, the EU is for you.
If you like living around communists, socialists and anarchists, the EU is for you.
If you are an alcoholic or chain-smoker, the EU is for you.
If you like living in structures over a hundred years old, the EU is for you.
-----------
The American Dream won't ever be replaced by the EU dream. Both lands are flooded with immigrants, but we require our immigrants to learn the language and adapt to Americanized ways of life. In the EU they slowly dissolve the fabric of their host country. The EU dream is the immigrants dream of a free-ride for a few years and settling for any better life than a third world existence.
France isn't France anymore. Germany isn't Germany. The quality of life is deteriorating and they are running out of money, causing massive unrest in various regions while entitlements are being rolled back.
In twenty years the EU will be a complete disaster zone, hardly able to be differentiated from some third world countries.
