Nice post, Robert!
Many fear what the inclusion of new countries in the EU would mean to their life (jobs, for instance). Our chance is that we can all learn from each other and when one country drifts too much away from the accepted rules, the other ones are quick to remind it about being part of an ongoing process which will matter even more to the next generations.
Reminds me of La Fontaine's "The Tortoise and the Hare".
(Why first tortoise in the english version while in french it's the hare; it must have a deep meaning;)
