The mainstream media has an unfortunate habit of eagerly snapping up news items that match its political agenda with a lot less care than other news stories. Remember Tailwind? This has bitten them more than once, when an item is just so damn juicy that they can't seem to restrain themselves.

If--if--this does turn out to be a forgery, the blogosphere will have scored a major coup, particularly Free Republic, where this originated, and which, using the distributed processing that only the internet can provide, has nailed more than a few things like this.
