With picture books especially, you never know what they'll fetch. The ones that were extremely popular in their day, with scads of copies floating around, usually sell at something close to their original list price, even though they're used. We can't get them at a discount, however.
But there are those unique items... things that have great entertainment value, but didn't sell many copies compared to more popular titles. Every once in a while I look for a book called The Biggest Frog in Australia, which is apparently rather rare. It's an Aboriginal legend, and very funny. It never came out in paperback, a hallmark of the "special interest", aka "not a hot seller", picture book. The original retailed at about $18.00 (pretty standard for a picture book), but I haven't seen it for less than $50.00 whenever I've looked. Obviously, we won't be replacing books like that.
Right now, we're concentrating on the ceilings and the floors, and the furniture. Part of the reason some of the sections are closed is not because of loss of materials, but because it's not safe for people and because there's nothing to put the books on.
This too shall pass. Thanks for the thought.
Depends on the book
