If you are ever in Central Texas, you’ll need that big hammer to get you a sample of Llanite
. It is the hardest granite you’ll ever hammer. It takes some work, but possessing a nice chunk of this rare granite, with its blue quarts crystals is worth it. It polishes up nice.
But watch out for rattle snakes. I saw a big one near there a few years ago.
And while you are in Central Texas, get some Pink Granite, Packsaddle Schist and some nice Gneiss. You might also find some rose quarts crystals, Fluorite crystals, Celestite and maybe even some blue Topaz.
As you get a way from the center of the Llano uplift, and the Igneous and Metamorphic rocks, you’ll find very nice limestone full of fossils.
