Reading past the jargon

the wallrock consisted of these really cool, calc-silicate bearing, finely layered Proterozoic amphibolite as mega-xenoliths within a Tertiary coarse-grained quartz monzonite. Pretty neat the way the xenoliths largely maintained the orientations of the regional F2 structure despite being intruded. Very close to the edge of the intrusion so that is to be expected.

Amphibolite?

Remind me, if you would (too lazy to look it up right now): which came first, Proterozoic or Tertiary?

"Xenoliths" I can parse - "strange/foreign stones". So what caused them to maintain orientation with their parent layer (assuming that's the "F2")? Alternatively: What caused them to intrude?
