The Left would begin to wail about uncovered expenses, the burden of paying the deductible, you name it. And of course, that old reliable, "unfair!"
Pretty soon, the "benefit creep" would begin. Just like with every single other entitlement ever created, all of which grew far beyond even the most pessimistic fiscal predictions.
The objective is not to make sure that cheap and effective health care is available. It's to make sure the American citizen is dependent on the central government for the necessities of life. In a system where leaders are still elected, it's the only method of ensuring power.
Many of the elderly are already, for all intents and purposes, wards of the State regarding income and medical care. That's where they want all of us.
This is why reasonable "safety net" proposals, or "means testing," don't have a chance in hell, and politicians have said as much.
There aren't enough truly needy voters in America to make it worth while.
